FAQ’s

If you can’t find the answer you are looking for, please contact us through this form.

As yet there are no medical tests that can be used to diagnose autism. Instead doctors and psychologists look for the presence of particular patterns of behaviours that indicate autism.

For information on seeking an autism assessment please contact your GP, or ask your GP to refer you to another local GP who includes autism as one of their specialities.

Early childhood approach – under 9

The period following a diagnosis is an extremely challenging one for individuals and families. Not only are you experiencing many emotions, you are also faced with decisions regarding accessing different services and support options. This can be overwhelming given the nature of waiting lists, the number of different service providers, and the desire to find help as quickly as possible.

Carers may experience a range of different feelings, which surface from time to time. There are no right or wrong feelings. These feelings are a natural and normal reaction to caring. Feelings are always individual and all carers respond to the demands of caring in their own way.

Everyone in our organisation is a volunteer and we welcome new people. In fact, we really want more volunteers who represent the many diverse people in autism communities of the Mid North Coast.

If you would like more information on volunteering with Coffs Coast Autism please submit the contact form.

Please note if you are interested in volunteering at any of our youth events (age 0 – 18 years) you will need to have a current Working With Children Check from ServiceNSW.
